Steam Holiday Sales Begin!

It’s that time of year where you think you’re not spending a lot of money, but you really spend a ton to get all those deeply discounted games on Steam. Oh, I’m certainly no exception to this rule, as last year’s black Friday sale took a great deal of my money. At about 1:00 PM pacific I visited steam, and not to my surprise the website was down from all the anxious gamers checking out all the latest and greatest digital deals. Todays deals include Portal, Portal 2, Fable III, Orcs Must Die, Singularity, Amnesisa, Just Cause, Max Payne, Rift and many others at 75% off. The deals don’t end there, there are other publisher catalogs for up to 90% off!

Proxy Heart takes a moment of silence for Will Townsend

My official gaming career began at Activision, working on Guitar Hero. The picture above is that of Will Townsend, we worked together at Activision, where he was a producer for various Guitar Hero titles and for DJ Hero, and later we worked together at Nexon America. I got the unfortunate news this morning of his passing and could not believe it. The world today lost a bright light and a brilliant smile. Many people knew and loved Will very much – so it’s to no surprise that even those who were merely acquainted with him felt his loss this morning. We are taking a moment of silence for our dear friend, and I’m sure in the next life we will meet again… and he will point out my sparkly shoes and laugh at me once more.

R.I.P Will Townsend, may your joyful spirit live on through your friends and loved ones.

Star Wars The Old Republic: Early Access Date

I, like probably many others, learned the hard way that Star Wars The Old Republic only has a limited quantity of Early Access codes. The head start is said to begin on December 13^th, 2011 only 7 days before the official launch of the game.

Star Wars The Old Republic is widely speculated to be the last true “Subscription” based game to be released, as many companies are starting to fall into the Free to Play (F2P) business model. The game is still available for pre-order via EA’s digital store Origin – for $20 more you can purchase the Digital Deluxe version and have access to a few extra goodies.

SOE’s Everquest II Becomes F2P

The free to play phenomenon is catching on as Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) MMORPG Everquest II went free to play on December 7^th 2011, though after researching it a bit, it’s not in the true spirit of most free to play games. The free or “Bronze” members will have only 2 character slots, limited access of content including character races (you still have to purchase newer expansion packs for EQ II ), limited bag slots, equipment, and spell tiers. The other memberships include:

Silver – A silver membership can be purchased for a one-time fee of $5, which includes increased amount of character slots, spell tiers, bag and bank slots.

Gold – Gold membership is available for $14.99 per month and provides full access to the game as you would imagine any subscription type game would.

Something I noted as a bit of a downside aside from limited content for bronze and silver users is the in-game mail system. Bronze and Silver users will only be able to receive mail – while gold members will be able to send AND receive.

EQ’s change to Free to play seems more like an extended demo than an actual move to the Free to Play system.

AutoFlix – Instant Netflix Marathon

Recently I was sick and like anyone who is bedridden, I decided the best thing was to take some medicine and conk out to a marathon of some show. Seeing as I have a netflix account I instantly figured, “Well hey! They have whole runs of shows here.” The only problem was, I had to get up every time the episode ended just to watch the next one. When you’re sick you don’t want to have to keep getting up and eventually just want to fall into a sweet drug induced sleep while your show plays.

Enter – Autoflix. Autoflix is an awesome little app that instantly hits “play next” for you on Netflix. This nifty little thing is only $1 and well worth it!

Update: mc chris Cartoon!

Earlier this year mc chris promoted his Kickstarter page on his social sites to help raise money for a cartoon project. Awesomely enough his efforts were successful!

A preview of the awesomeness to come.

It’s no doubt that mc chris has a loyal following as $16,856 more than needed was raised to help him out, bringing the total funds raised for the mc chris cartoon to $71,856. I’m not sure what it is about mc chris that makes him a master at getting his fans (including myself) to help out with his projects and with charity. Perhaps it’s how down to earth he seems and how genuine he is about his passion for the fight against CF and for his art.

During the subsequent video chat he had with his fans on stickam, the nerd rapper broke down and was amazed at how much his fans believed in him and how all this support was a big FUCK YOU to all those who did not have faith in him.

Live geek and prosper mc chris! I’m more than excited for his arrival in L.A for the Race Wars tour!

No Netflix… just no.

My question is: Netflix, do you have focus groups before rolling out a new layout or even test it on your employees before saying, “Hm – this layout is amazing!”

I love netflix. Netflix is the awesomest thing since sliced bread for me. I can watch shows – I can procrastinate and watch shows, I can “Do work” and watch shows. Simply put, I love it!

Netflix has decided to unleash a new monstrosity upon us – it’s newest layout:

I was born to give you headaches! ... Also swamp people is an awesome show.

So, you need to wait for the movies to scroll past you to see what you want to see, and that gives me a headache. I’m raging so much right now I can’t even write a proper post.

PLEASE CHANGE THIS NETFLIX TANKUUUU~

P.s While you’re at it, please update your Netflix app to work on the latest software version of android. <3

mc chris

This week, we’re featuring an amazing artist who is not only known as a Star Wars rap master and undisputed god of Nerdcore, he’s also an artist who loves to draw and has a philanthropic heart! Did you guess? We’re talking about mc chris!

Although mc chris is most noted for his smash hit “Fette’s Vette” he also has his hands dipped into animation, working closely with companies like Titmouse. AND for those who don’t know (you should know this anyway unless you live under a rock) he worked with Aqua Teen Hunger Force as mc pee pants (I want Candy!). mc chris also has come out with his first Children’s album this year, Marshmellow Playground, but you don’t only have to be a kid to love it, you can just be a kid at heart! This album touches on subjects that bring back memories of childhood like, mac n’ cheese with hot dogs and being afraid of the dark! mc chris is also hard at work on tour overseas (overseas if you live in the U.S that is) and is planning to come out with a new album Racewars.

On a more serious note, mc chris has a huge and loving heart. This amazing artist has fun raised through e-bay and through his concerts to help fight CF (Cystic Fibrosis). According to Wikipedia, mc chris has raised over $41,000 for the fight against CF, though I’m not sure when this wiki entry was last updated so it could be a lot more!!

This is what I got for my contribution <3 The best part is knowing I could help.

On another note, mc chris is also fundrasing to get his cartoon done for adult swim! His fans are aware how much he gives of himself to help others that they have actually donated a total of $29,433 so far with 300 backers on his kickstarter page! If you can donate even a dollar to help this amazing guy out, he would be more than grateful!

On yet another note – sorry ladies (and gents) but he’s taken! He’s posted on his FB about his girlfriend and he seems to really care about her, which is sweet <3 someone this awesome deserves an awesome person in return.

So the moral of the geek appeal?
